BBWH: Behind the Scenes of Chapter 1

virtual reality

Without giving a spoiler alert, I devised some behind the scenes information on the thought process of Chapter 1 of Black Blood White Hands (BBWH).

We live in a world where a thin line separates the truth from what is artificial. The truth has become more one-sided than ever. What is factual vs. what is an accusation vs. what is actual reality? The appetite of a person desires a one-sided gospel. The opening of Chapter 1 will take the reader by surprise as Devon, one of the main characters, grapples with the complexities of reality while living in entitled opulence. Devon’s curiosity will force him to wrestle with the unseen and the visible.

The first five years of a child’s life are crucial for brain development, social, and emotional development. Throughout the novel, I explore how upbringing may positively or negatively influence character outcomes. A child could be raised in a perfect and loving environment, but all forms of negativity can push through to destroy that person later in life. Conversely, a child may be raised in an awful environment that is not conducive for growth and development, but somehow positivity sprouts up from within their soul, and brings forth a splendid impact. In life there are no throw aways. Each person is a vessel with endless opportunities and potential. Even for the characters of BBWH, their beginning does not determine their ending.

In Chapter 1, Devon was met with unexpected visitors. His heart rate changed and he started sweating profusely in response to the unforeseen circumstances. How does a person response to traumatic situations? This question is loaded because there are a myriad of ways a person can respond, since each person is unique. No one response is correct, but a response is required and given. For each input, there is an output. For example, my mother died and then my best friendship ended in a span of three months. There are no words to articulate both losses, but a response was given. I lost my appetite for a while; it was extremely difficult to eat anything. Traumatic events affect people in different ways.

As a writer, I discovered the importance of outlining and character development. It is good to development the character before you start writing. You do not want to develop a character on-the-fly. The latter will create havoc throughout your writing process. Flesh out the characters and even world-building. Try to stay true to the layers you developed in the outline.

BBWH in the future, after 2026, where artificial intelligence (AI) is in its prime. Today we can see how AI has significantly shaped the global workforce. Entire organizations are being restructured as I type this article. People are pivoting out of and into careers they never dreamed of. For some people, the majority of their identity is encapsulated in their career. Some people are in a state of identity crisis because their career is crumbling. Tomorrow is not promised, neither is a job. A job is a job–you can always find or create another one.
